How to care for autumn cut flowers
Autumn is a kind season for cut flowers. Cooler rooms mean slower opening and longer vase life. A few things worth knowing when your stems arrive.

Cut the stems at an angle under running water as soon as they arrive. Two centimetres from the bottom is enough. This prevents an air bubble forming and blocking the stem's water intake.

Use cool water, not warm. Room temperature is fine. Flowers in autumn take in water more slowly than summer stems, which extends their life rather than shortening it.

Change the water every two days and re-cut the stems at the same time. This is the single most effective thing you can do to extend the life of cut flowers.

Keep them away from direct heat. Radiators are on by October and they will shorten the life of any arrangement dramatically. A windowsill away from a heat source is ideal.
